English Proficiency:
Prospective students must obtain proof of their English language ability. There are points available for competent English or vocational English. In some cases, you may be asked by the Department of Immigration to undertake the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. The IELTS has four components – speaking, reading, listening and writing.
To undertake the ‘Competent English’ you can establish a competent level of English by providing evidence that you are a native English speaker. Thus, you will need to provide evidence to show that you have undertaken post-secondary studies at an institution where all instructions were in English. You will need to obtain a score of at least six out of nine for all four components of the IELTS test.
For ‘Vocational English’ you will need to show that you have vocational English ability by scoring at least five out of nine in all four components of the IELTS test.
